Meeting with Kerala Labour Minister Adv. Bindhu Krishna and Thrikkakara MLA Uma Thomas discussing IT sector layoffs, employment protection, and future workforce policies.

Meeting with Kerala Labour Minister and Thrikkakara MLA on IT Sector Layoffs and Employment Concerns

A detailed discussion was held with Adv. Bindhu Krishna, Hon'ble Minister for Labour, Government of Kerala, and Sri. Uma Thomas, MLA, Thrikkakara, regarding the sudden closure of the Kochi office of the US-based company CorroHealth and the reported layoffs affecting nearly 1,000 employees, many of whom were from different districts of Kerala.

The meeting focused on the need to strengthen employment protection measures for professionals working in the IT and BPO sectors. Discussions also covered the importance of reviewing and updating labour policies applicable to the IT industry to ensure greater job security and transparency during large-scale workforce reductions.

A separate representation was submitted requesting that the activities and operational practices of CorroHealth in Kerala be examined by the appropriate authorities.

The discussion also addressed the broader challenges facing the IT and BPO sectors, including rapid technological changes, automation, artificial intelligence, and evolving workforce requirements. Emphasis was placed on the importance of developing future-ready skills, strengthening industry-academia collaboration, and aligning higher education with emerging technologies to improve long-term employability.

Constructive intervention by both the Central and State Governments can help protect employment, support economic growth, and create sustainable career opportunities for the next generation.
