FAERI Discusses IT Employment Protection with Kerala Labour Minister - FAERI News
FAERI IT Employment Protection Initiative was discussed during a meeting with Adv. Bindhu Krishna, Hon'ble Minister for Labour, Government of Kerala, and Sri. Uma Thomas, MLA, Thrikkakara, regarding the reported closure of the Kochi office of the US-based company CorroHealth and the layoffs affecting nearly 1,000 employees from various districts across Kerala.

The discussion focused on the need to strengthen employment protection measures for professionals working in the Information Technology (IT) and Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) sectors. Emphasis was placed on reviewing and modernizing labour policies applicable to the IT industry to improve job security, transparency, and employee welfare during large-scale workforce reductions.

As part of the meeting, a separate representation was submitted requesting that the activities and operational practices of CorroHealth in Kerala be examined by the appropriate authorities in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.

The meeting also addressed the broader challenges currently facing the IT and BPO sectors, including the rapid adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), automation, digital transformation, and evolving workforce requirements. Discussions highlighted the importance of equipping students and professionals with future-ready skills, strengthening collaboration between industry and educational institutions, and aligning higher education with emerging technologies to enhance long-term employability.

FAERI reaffirmed its commitment to supporting initiatives that promote sustainable employment, workforce development, innovation, and technology-driven education. The organization believes that constructive collaboration between the Central and State Governments, industry stakeholders, and academic institutions can strengthen Kerala's IT ecosystem, protect employment opportunities, and create a resilient workforce prepared for the future.
